Bamboo Mats

Bamboo mats are hand woven mats using bamboo slivers. The weaving is done manually, mostly by women in rural or tribal areas as part time vocation to supplement family income. Bamboopecker works with these tribal and rural communities in India to ensure we keep up the demand for these mats, hence a constant income to these familes.

Locally sourced bamboo from forest depots are split and from the split bamboo epidermal layer is removed and slivers of thickness ranging from 0.6mm to 1.0 mm are made and dried in air to moisture content of around 15%. The dried slivers are manually woven into mats of different sizes and patterns. Herring bone weaving pattern is most common throughout the world.

Usage: Ceiling, Basketry, raw material for bamboo mat board/ply, construction, lamp shades, bowls and plates. Bamboopecker uses this material extensively, some of our works here.

Below are the patterns we stock or source currently, and we will update this page as and when we procurre more patterns.
